When Laura Fourre bred her lovely girl GCH Cameos' Centerfold (Kendra) to a handsome Canadian-owned dog, CH Anastasia Black and White Magic (Charlie), I had been toying with the idea of looking for a bitch as my next Berner. I had been in the breed approximately 10 years, and during that time had spent a good amount of time studying pedigrees, learning about health issues, and reading about canine genetics. I felt like I just might know enough to truly make an informed decision about not only adding another potential show-prospect to the family, but also was looking for a good foundation bitch to perhaps breed a litter of my own in the future.
Unfortunately the timing of Laura's litter with Kendra and Charlie couldn't have been worse. We had just lost 3 of our 4 Berners in the span of 8 months--all to Histiocytic Sarcoma (which has a strong genetic component to it in BMD's). But when I heard folks talking about Laura's litter the puppies were about 8 weeks old and that Laura was still looking for some homes to place show prospects in, I thought perhaps I should go take a look at the litter. I was impressed by three of the young girls in the litter and 1 lovely boy and came back several more times to look over the puppies. I gradually warmed up to the idea of adding another puppy to our home even though I was still mourning the loss of my 3 boys. Since I had been considering adding a girl to the family, I focused my attention on the 3 lovely girls. In the end, what drew me to Purple Girl, or Tilly as she is now known, is her shorter length of back, lovely, easy movement and typey body. All those qualities thankfully carried with her into adulthood.
Tilly has matured into a substantial bitch, with lovely, easy movement that reminds me a lot of her incredible dam and her handsome typey sire. She has a very nice outline, with nice moderate rear angulation and has balanced angulation front to rear. She also has personality plus (just like her mom!) that keeps us laughing--and annoys us--sometimes all at the same time! She has gorgeous almond shaped, dark eyes, and carries a good deal of coat and ADORES the show ring. Thank you Laura for your support, friendship and most of all for the Purple Girl that we came home with!
